International
Turkish Author on Trial 13 Sep 2006
Earlier this year, Jenni was joined on the programme by Elif Shafak, one of Turkey 's leading novelists. Her latest novel 'The Bastard of Istanbul', (yet to be published in the UK) has caused her to be summoned to court, next week, where she is being charged with 'insulting Turkishness' under Article 301 of the Turkish criminal code. This is for a comment made by one of the characters in the book and it makes her the first person to be charged for what a fictional character has said.

Jenni speaks to Elif about her case and she also talks to the journalist Alev Adil about the recent spate of prosecutions of Turkish writers.
