Chinese Vases 11 August 2006
Penny Bendall fixing one of the Chinese vases
You may remember hearing a few months ago about the visitor to the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge who tripped over his shoelace and shattered three late 17th century Chinese porcelain vases.

The Qing vases were worth a half a million pounds before they were smashed into over 400 pieces and were decorated with peonies, phoenixes, pheasants, and butterflies.

The vases went back on display this week after having been lovingly pieced back together by Penny Bendall, a ceramics conservator who has worked for Sotheby's, the National Trust, and the Royal Collection. In an exclusive interview, recorded at the time, she showed Jennifer Chevalier how she was going about putting the pieces back together.
