Family
Children and Tidiness 19 Jul 2006
A child's bedroom and its state of disorder is one of the great battlegrounds of family life. In her new book Tidy Your Room: Getting Your Kids to do the Jobs they Hate, Jane Bidder sets out a practical guide to help frustrated parents motivate their children to tidy both their own rooms and generally help around the home. She says the best age to start training is two. But what does tidiness do for us? And is it nature or nurture?

Jenni talks to Jane and to the psychologist Susan Wright. There's also a report from Sue Elliott-Nicholls who inspects the rooms of teenage twins Rebecca and Daniel - both 14, and their nine-year old brother, Elliott.

Tidy Your Room: Getting Your Kids To Do The things They Hate, published by White Ladder; ISBN 978-1-905410-04-0
