History
Robert Corbet's bed 13 July 2006
In 1593  Robert Corbet commissioned a bed for his master bedroom at Moreton Corbet Castle in Shropshire. It cost as much as the house itself.  The bed was handed down from one generation to the next, but was sold to the Victoria and Albert Museum in 1913. And now it's back in Shropshire, on loan to Rowley's House Museum in Shrewsbury.

The original hangings have long since vanished, so in 1992 the Embroiderers of Shropshire began working on a counterpane, curtains and valances for the bed. One of the groups meets at Preston hall where the Corbet family still lives.  Judy Merry went to meet the sewers, and Margaret Owen, who's designed the news hangings for the Corbet bed.
