Social
Children who witness domestic violence 26 May 2006
Upwards of 750,000 children experience domestic violence every year, some are directly harmed by abuse within the home - others are affected indirectly by witnessing the abuse. Many children have to leave their homes to escape. Many more are caught up in contact proceedings between separating parents where there is a history of domestic violence. New guidance launched this week seeks to improve the service offered to children affected by domestic violence.

Martha is joined by Margaret McGlade of the Association of Directors of Social Services who is chair of the group which drew up the guidelines, and by Alison Buchanan from Women’s Aid.
