This week sees the two hundredth anniversary of the birth of Elizabeth Barrett Browning. She was the first woman to be considered for the role of Poet Laureate, she wrote about social affairs as well as affairs of the heart, and yet many still think of her as the product of a repressive, Victorian father.
Woman's Hour examines her radical politics, her witty verse and her relationship with fellow writer Robert Browning.
The British Library display is at their St Pancras entrance hall in London until 5 April 2006. |
