Why do we still love Dorothy? 29 March 2010
Dorothy's shoes in the Wizard of Oz
The enduring appeal of the Wizard of Oz's young star

More than 100 years after she was created by the American author L. Frank Baum, Dorothy and her quest for the Land of Oz continues to enchant us. The 1939 MGM classic of the Wizard of Oz has been cited as the most watched film in history. And now a new BBC 1 programme, 'Over the Rainbow', is documenting  Andrew Lloyd Webber's search for the next actress to play Dorothy in a theatre adaptation. Jane talks to Linda Ruth Williams, Professor of Film Studies at the University of Southampton, and Sian Brooke, an actor who played Dorothy in the 2008 stage production of the Wizard of Oz at the Royal Festival Hall.
