How much should parents be held responsible for their children’s crimes?
In Italy, 450,000 Euros was granted to a young girl, who had been raped by a group of teenage boys, over a period of a few years. The Judge, Bianca La Monica ordered the parents of the teenage boys to pay the damages because they failed to give their children an education ‘in feelings and emotions’. The boys had shown little appreciation of the damage their actions had inflicted on the young girl. The Guardian Correspondent in Rome, John Hooper explains more about the case.
