Northern Ireland's victims of abuse 15 Jan 2010
The campaign for justice for the victims of institutional abuse in Northern Ireland.

In May last year, the Irish Government published The Ryan Report which revealed that rape and sexual molestation had been “endemic” in schools and orphanages run by the catholic church over seven decades. As a result of the Ryan Report, a number of religious orders have now agreed to make amends to the people who were abused as children in their care. But (unlike the remit of the Ryan Report) the abuse didn’t stop at the border. Many of the organisations who ran care homes in the Republic also had homes in Northern Ireland and now the people who were abused in these homes as children have come forward to talk about their experiences and to demand recognition and redress for what they suffered. Brian O’Donoghue talks to Jenni about the abuse he suffered in a children’s home in Northern Ireland and Carmel Hanna – the SDLP Health Spokesman and a member of the Northern Ireland Assembly – talks about the campaign for justice for the victims of institutional abuse in Northern Ireland.
