Education
Being the first person in the family to go to University. 16 Oct 2009
Nicola Monaghan & Riazat Butt taking part in discussion. Photographer Richard Richards at University of Derby
What’s it like to be the first in the family to go to University?

What’s it like to be the first in the family to go to University? Nearly 60 per cent of students at Derby University are trail blazers in their families, staying on to get a higher education. Of the college’s 24,000 students less that 4 per cent were privately educated.  Jenni is joined by the award winning novelist Nicola Monaghan and by national newspaper journalist Riazat Butt who both broke the mould and went to College.
