Social
Future of Children's Care Homes I Oct 2009
Are children better off in care than with vulnerable parents?

A new style of residential care homes for children is being introduced in the UK, which it is said could improve the chances of young people taken into care. They are based on a system used successfully on the continent, where in Denmark for example sixty percent of care leavers go on to higher education, compared to six percent here.  Judy Merry visits Kinder House, one of the new residential care homes just opened in Wallasey, Cheshire. In the light of a series of shocking cases of abuse such as the death of Baby Peter. Is this model of care the answer to breaking the cycle of abuse and neglect? Jenni will be discussing the issues with Martin Narey, Chief Executive of Barnardo's and Dawn Howley, care leaver and volunteer with Kids Company.
