Work
Smashing the Grey Ceiling 16 Jul 2009
Should we have the right to work after 65?

The Government is being asked to explain in the High Court today why it believes we still need a mandatory retirement age. Charities representing the elderly (Age Concern and Help the Aged) have brought the case, and are arguing that as long as older people are capable of performing well in their job they should be allowed to stay. So what are the pleasures and pitfalls of working in your later years? Jenni is joined by Mervyn Kohler, policy adviser to the charities bringing the case, Dr Robert Parkinson of London Metropolitan University who is leading research on the 'older worker' and Ruth Lea, economic adviser at the Arbuthnot Banking Group and a governor of the London School of Economics.
