History
Women in the Early Christian Church 05 Jun 2009
The Virgin Mary
A new book by Sister Kathleen Murphy looks at the contribution of women as leaders and evangelists during the first few decades of Christianity.

The story of the early years of the Christian church is dominated by the achievements of men. But now, in a new book, Dr Kathleen Murphy has highlighted some of the stories of the first Christian women. She joins Jenni to talk about these women and to explain why – despite their importance to the early Christian church – people like Lydia [the first European female to embrace Christianity] and Phoebe [Paul’s emissary to Rome] have such a low profile today.
In the Spirit of Pentecost’ by Kathleen Murphy is published by St Paul’'s Publishing,
ISBN: 978-0-85439-749-5
