Childcare 17 Dec 2008
Are we putting economic needs before our children's welfare by relying on formal childcare?

An international study published by UNICEF last week warned that parents and governments are taking a "high-stakes gamble" with the longterm wellbeing of children by subjecting them to long hours of formal childcare from a very young age. It recommended that all children should be cared for where possible by parents at home during the first year, and emphasised that children from the poorest homes face the double disadvantage of being born into poverty and receiving sub-standard childcare. Jenni is joined by the psychologist and childcare expert Dr Penelope Leach and Anna Lines from the campaign group Full Time Mothers.
