Immigration - Is it time to stop detaining children?
Every year around 2,000 children pass through the UK's immigration detention centres, a practice long criticised by MPs and charities alike. This week lawyers challenge the legality of this as they take the case of an eight-year-old boy detained in an immigration removal centre since July to the high court. The New Statesman has also launched its “No Place for Children” campaign, calling for an end to the detention of children and families for the purposes of immigration control. Jane is joined by Sir Al Aynsley Green, The Children's Commissioner for England, Natasha Walters, Campaigner for Women for Refugee Women and Lynne Homer, the Chief Executive of UK Border and Immigration.UK Border Agency Women for Refugee Women New Statesman’s No Place for Children CampaignDisclaimer
