The Staycation 31st July 2008
Can staying at home be as refreshing as a holiday away?

As the credit crunch bites, more and more of us are considering whether we can actually justify the cost of a holiday abroad. Add to that the rising cost of petrol, the poor exchange rate on the pound and security checks en route and the idea of going absolutely nowhere is becoming quite an appealing prospect. The “Staycation” is the phrase that’s been coined to describe a holiday, or vacation, where you stay put, in the comfort of your own home. But while staying at home for two weeks cuts out packing, airport check-ins and a fight for a sun lounger, can it really leave you feeling refreshed and ready to face the long winter ahead?

Jenni is joined by Guardian columnist and author Lucy Mangan and journalist Angela Epstein.
