Living Over The Shop 24 July 2008
Sweetshop
How does growing up above the shop affect family life?

The English are known as a Nation of Shopkeepers, but when running the shop has to be juggled with raising a family, what comes first, the kids or the customers? Growing up in a sweet shop might sound like a dream come true for most children, but the reality might not be so idyllic. So how does it work when you’re dragged away from doing your homework to come and serve behind the counter? Author Catherine O’Flynn and lawyer and restauranteur Helen Tse tell Jenni about what it was like to help out in the family business.
