Why we need to be better at ageing.
Julia Neuberger’s new book, Not Dead Yet, is a call to arms - a manifesto that demands justice for older people who find themselves increasingly marginalised and discriminated against. Why is it that we allow older people to be treated in ways that would not be accepted by the rest of society? Jane discuses the issues with Julia and also with Haleh Afshar, who has recently studied women’s attitudes towards ageing in different ethnic groups. She found that the extent to which women feel valued and cared for in old age varies widely according to their cultural and religious values.
