Should the abortion limit be reduced to twenty weeks? 30 April 2008
How strong is the scientific evidence for change?

Next week the Conservative MP Nadine Dorries will launch a campaign to reduce the 24 week abortion limit to 20 weeks. She has been persuaded of the need for change by what she sees as a growing body of scientific evidence and she is not alone. Later this summer she will table an amendment to the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill and it is estimated she has the support of some 200 MPs. So, what do we know now about foetal pain and survival of very premature babies and how should this change the law on abortion? Jenni talks to Nadine Dorries MP and to Kate Guthrie, Head of Abortion Services in Hull and a spokeswoman for the Royal College of Gynecologists.
