Parenting
Foster parents and smacking 18 April 2008
Should smacking your own children always prevent you from becoming a foster parent?

Heather Bowen's application to become a foster carer was refused by her local authority because she believes that under certain circumstances, it is appropriate to smack her own child. She'd signed an agreement never to smack any foster children placed in her care, but does her policy on disciplining her own child mean she could never provide a suitable home for a foster child? Jane talks to Heather, and discusses the issues her story raises with Norman Wells from the Family Education Trust and Hazel Halle from The Fostering Network.
