 Forgotten writers of distinction?
Sylvia Townsend Warner was one of the most popular writers of the 1930’s. Her novels were best sellers, yet today she is virtually unknown. She was also a poet of some stature and a political activist – she joined the Communist Party in 1935. For many years she lived with another writer – the poet Valentine Ackland – together they published a volume of their work, but without great success. The poetry of both women has been reissued in two volumes – some of it never seen before. Jane Little will be speaking to the editors Claire Harman and Frances Bingham.
