Pre-nuptial Agreements 17 Mar 2007
Are they worth the paper they’re written on?

The Heather Mills/Paul McCartney divorce has been – as one newspaper put it – “one of the most costly and acrimonious divorce battles in British history”. Could they have saved themselves a lot of trouble by having a pre-nuptial agreement? Some think they’re unromantic; some say they’re pragmatic. Increasingly popular, they still aren’t legally binding in this country; but might that change – and, if it does, might women be the ones who come off worst? Family lawyers Vanessa Lloyd Platt and Marilyn Stowe join Ritula to discuss the pros and cons of pre-nuptial contracts.
