The crime novelist becomes the central character in a new detective story

Elizabeth Mackintosh became one of the twentieth century’s leading crime writers under her pseudonym Josephine Tey. She also wrote plays under the name of Gordon Daviot - most notably she wrote ‘Richard of Bordeaux’, which launched the career of a young John Gielgud. Now, author Nicola Upson has written a crime novel in which Josephine Tey is one of the leading characters. The action in the book begins as the London run of ‘Richard of Bordeaux’ is drawing to a close. Nicola joins Jane to talk about her new book, which will be the Woman's Hour drama at the end of April and they are joined by novelist Andrew Taylor, author of ‘The American Boy’ to discuss the life of Josephine Tey.

An Expert in Murder by NicoLa Upson is pubished by Faber and Faber on  6 March   ISBN-13: 978-0571237708
The American Boy by Andrew Taylor is published by Harper Perennial ISBN-13: 978-0007109609
Josephine Tey’s novels are published by Random House on the Arrow list
