 "First Lady of Soul-Jazz"
Marlena Shaw's musical career spans more than forty years and her repertoire draws on a wide range of musical styles - disco, soul, jazz, gospel and scat. She talks to Miriam about her musical life - singing in an all-male gospel choir, touring with Count Basie and her song 'Woman of the Ghetto', which became one of the anthems of the civil rights movement in the 1960's. Marlena also talks about her latest projects - she's still recording and is currently appearing at Ronnie Scott's in London's Soho.Ronnie Scott's Disclaimer
