Social
Discussion on the Inter-racial Grooming of Girls for Sex 23 August 2007
Young girl
Taking a look at a sensitive issue affecting some of our most vulnerable children.

Recently, two Asian men from East Lancashire were jailed for the sexual exploitation of two white girls under 16.The case has sparked much debate and the charity CROP – the Coalition for the Removal of Pimping – says that in the last four and a half years they have been contacted by over 200 concerned families. In 35% to 40% of these cases, the groups of men involved in exploitation have been predominantly Asian. On last week’s Woman’s Hour, ‘Jackie’ talked to Jenni about her daughter who was groomed for sex by Asian men before her sixteenth Birthday. This week Miriam discusses the issue with Abdul Hamid Qureshi, Chairman of the Lancashire Council of Mosques and Ann Cryer MP who says that she has been contacted by mothers concerned that Asian men are grooming their young daughters for sex.
