Social
Telling Off Other People’s Children 03 August 2007
Child playing
Unacceptable interference or a social responsibility?

Is it ever acceptable to tell other people's children off or should it always be left to their parents? Is it just gutless British reserve that prevents us from intervening when other people's children behave badly? Or should we accept that we all have a social responsibility to discipline a naughty child? Do you seethe on the inside but smile through gritted teeth as someone else’s offspring run amok? To discuss these questions, Jane Little is joined by Angela Epstein – whose husband says she is an embarrassment when she tells other people’s children how to behave – and Rosie Millard - who thinks that the British are allergic to the sight or sound of anyone under 10.
