 Reaching out to Asian Women when it comes to Mental Health
It’s widely acknowledged that when it comes to Mental Health Services, Asian women are one of the hardest groups to reach. The trust that runs those services in one part of London is hoping an Indian film star will help to change that. On Wednesday night, South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust is screening Maati Maay – the story of a young woman with mental health problems, who’s ostracised by her local community. The actress – Nandita Das will be there to talk about the issues. But WHY is it proving so difficult to get help to the people who need it? Jane speaks to the Trust’s Rachel Perkins; to Marjorie Wallace from the charity Sane and to Raji Chandirassegarane from the South London Tamil Welfare Group - which helps Asian women access the services they need.South London Tamil Welfare Group
