To mark Carers Week, the actress talks about her experiences as a carer.
Pam Ferris is one of Britain’s best-loved actresses. She made her name as the ever-cheerful Ma Larkin in The Darling Buds of May and this year played the troubled wife Phoebe in a 50th anniversary revival of John Osborne's The Entertainer at the Old Vic, London. What is less well known is that she is a vice-president of The Princess Royal Trust for Carers. It’s a cause she feels passionately about because of her memories of being a full-time carer for her mother, while recently she has had to cope with arranging care for her mother-in-law who has dementia. To mark Carers Week, Jane Little talks to Pam Ferris about her experiences as a carer and the important role family carers play.
And we want to hear your experiences of caring for a relative, for a special programme this coming Wednesday. Have you found it feasible as a carer to go out to work? Please email us your views. The Princess Royal Trust for Carers Carers UK CrossroadsDisclaimer
