Abortion in Latin America 29th May 2007
The Mexican parliament voted to decriminalise abortion, at least in the capital, citing the number of women  harmed in the large number of illegal abortions.
In Brazil, Pope Benedict appeared to suggest that politicians condoning abortion should be excommunicated and last year, the Nicaraguan National Assembly voted to ban all abortions.
So what direction is the abortion debate taking in Latin America?
Jenni is joined by Torunn Eskedal, a researcher in the department of Politics at Sheffield University, Helga Baitenmann, Research Fellow at the Institute for the Studies of the Americas at London University  and Jill Greer, Director General of the International Planned Parenthood Federation.

Decoding Gender: Law and Practice in Contemporary Mexico by Helga Baitenmann will be published in August.
