Breast feeding in Public 18 May 2007
On Wednesday, the Breastfeeding Manifesto Coalition called on the Government for policy and practice that supports greater general acceptance of breastfeeding in public. Despite the widely recognised benefits, less than 1% of women in the UK exclusively breastfeed their babies for the recommended first six months of life. Alison Baum, spokesperson for the Breastfeeding Manifesto Coalition and Gabrielle Palmer, author of “The Politics of Breastfeeding” join Jane to discuss our attitudes towards breastfeeding in public, where they come from and how we can go about changing them.
