Shakespeare’s Women - Wicked 09 March 2007
When you think of Shakespeare’s wicked women, Lady Macbeth is probably the first who comes to mind. However she does have some equally ruthless rivals. From high born queens to low-life brothel keepers, there are other thoroughly bad girls among the supporting female roles he wrote – starting of course with the three witches from Macbeth.’

As the Royal Shakespeare Company continues its ‘Complete Works’ Festival, in the next of our series on Shakespeare’s best supporting female roles, Judi Herman has been plumbing the depths of evil to which these women sink. She spoke to actors who’ve revelled in these roles and to Pippa Guard, lecturer in Drama and English at the University of Greenwich.
