Reflections of women from Yorkshire fishing communities. For 150 years the fishing industry was the lifeblood of the Yorkshire coast. From Hull to Staithes, entire families were employed catching, baiting, gutting and smoking fish – and you were never too young to start.
These days, you can still get great fish and chips in Scarborough and Whitby - but the fishing fleet has shrunk, and in many communities it’s disappeared altogether.
