Iraqi Women - Human Rights Catastrophe? |

The abduction of women and children has become a lucrative business for gangs in many parts of Iraq and particularly in Baghdad. Women are so fearful of being kidnapped or being attacked that they rarely go out alone, and hire taxis to go to work. If they are not being taken for ransom then there is evidence they are falling into the hands of sex-traffickers. It is suggested that Iraqi women’s daily lives are so consistently under threat and they are being so seriously discriminated against, that in some cases their conditions have returned to those of the middle ages. Woman’s Hour looks at whether the charge of a human rights catastrophe unfolding for Iraqi women is an accurate one.Act Together: Women's Action for IraqDisclaimer
