Save the Children estimates that in the last year the UK detained 2000 children as part of the immigration process.
Earlier this month a highly critical report by a cross-party group of MPs said that the detention of children by the Home Office was contravening international legal guidelines set by the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child. It claims there has been an increase in detention over the last five years and calls on the Home Secretary to introduce alternative approaches.
