Transparency in the Family Courts 11 July 2006
The government is publishing its long awaited proposals for greater transparency in the family courts. On the surface there seems to be a consensus that more openness is a good idea but there is a fine balance between the perceived need for transparency and the need to protect those individuals - particularly children - who are caught up in the proceedings.

Harriet Harman speaks to Jenni Murray and reveals the details of her proposals. Duncan Fisher, Chief Executive of Fathers Direct, Louise Spitz, a solicitor who specialises in family law at Manches and John Sweeney, a BBC journalist who has campaigned on this issue offer their responses.
