Darfur - sexual violence 20 Jun 2006
Last month, the Sudanese government and the largest rebel group in Darfur signed a peace deal aimed at ending three years of conflict. During this time more than 200,000 people have been killed with Janjaweed militias carried out mass rapes. But more than a month on, the violence and sexual assaults are continuing. Women who have been raped are having trouble bringing their cases to court as at least four witnesses are needed to prove that it took place. Babies born as a result of rape are stigmatised as children of the Janjaweed. So what can be done to support these women?

Jenni is joined by Jane Lindrio Alao, a social worker at the Amel Centre for the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Victims of Torture in Darfur and Rosalideh Ondeko, leader of the Gender Based Violence team for the United Nations Population Fund in Sudan .
