Gastric bypass and gastric band operations: How safe are they? |

Demand for gastric banding and bastric bypass operations has more than doubled within the past eighteen months. Four thousand of these procedures were performed in England last year. But recent emotional comments by Peter Taylor, the husband of a woman who died four days after receiving a gastric bypass, have reiterated the scale of the risk involved.
Jenni discusses how safe weight loss is in surgery. She is joined by to Chris While, a singer songwriter who has lost five stone in five years since receiving a gastric band and Dr Ian Campbell in Northampton, Medical Director of Weight Concern, a charity dedicated to tackling the UK 's obesity epidemic.
