CAFCASS – Is this family legal service working as well as it should? 16 June 2006
In 2001 the Government set up the Child and Family Court Advisory Support Service (CAFCASS). It’s had a troubled history ever since it came into being with three chief executives in five years.

Critics have accused it of lengthy delays, inefficiency, lack of resources, under-performing staff and unacceptable mistakes in its work. Some have even compared it with the Child Support Agency which has also received much negative coverage in the press.

But recently CAFCASS published its new strategy "Every Day Matters", which it claims will make radical changes to the way CAFCASS works and improve the service it gives to children and families.

Ritula Shah is joined by CAFCASS chief executive Anthony Douglas and Christina Blacklaws, Chair of the Law Society’s Family Law Committee.
