Closure of Women's Prisons 9 Jun 2006
The prison population in England and Wales is just short of reaching an all-time high. In response, the Home Office has announced that two women’s prisons - Brockhill in the West Midlands and Bullwood Hall in Essex - will become prisons for men. But what effect will this have on women prisoners and their families?

With overcrowding, death in custody, self-harm and drug abuse already severe problems within women’s prisons, won’t this move make the situation even more difficult? Martha is joined by Juliet Lyon, Director of the Prison Reform Trust and Helen Edwards, Chief Executive of the National Offenders Management Service.
