Women in the new Iraq 22 May 2006
A new national government has been formed in Iraq. There now follows a three month consultation period for amendments to be made to the constitution.

But there are fears that the clock will be turned back for women's rights through the constitution's reliance on Sharia law. With the country on the brink of civil war, and with so many key issues to work through, will women's rights even make it on the agenda?

Iraqi MP Maysoon Al-Damluji in Baghdad Nadia Al-Ali from Exeter University and Dr Shatha Beserani from Iraqi Women for Peace and Democracy discuss with Jenni Murray how women will fare in the new Iraq .
