The Catholic Church and condom use 11 May 2006
It's been reported that the Catholic Church is examining its position on condom use - but only in relation to married couples where one of them has AIDS. The Archbishop of Glasgow has added his voice to the debate - Mario Conti says that it is "common sense" to allow condom use in certain situations if it could help prevent the spread of the virus. Is this a 'one off' about preventing disease or could it spell a more fundamental shift on the attitude of the Church to birth control more generally?

Miriam O'Reilly is joined by Dr Tina Beattie; Reader in Christian Studies at the Roehampton University and Dr Helen Watt; Director of the Linacre Centre, a Catholic Centre for Bio Ethics.
