Why did Emily Brontë write Wuthering Heights ? And how was she able to do it? In spite of the massive amount of material published about the Brontë sisters over the last 150 years, these two questions still remain unanswered.
A new radio drama called Cold In The Earth and Fifteen Wild Decembers is based on a theory that Emily had a socially transgressive love affair with a weaver's son. Is it possible that the young Emily Brontë had a doomed love affair and this was the inspiration for her famous novel?
Jenni talks to Sarah Fermi and Juliet Barker, Brontë's biographer.
Cold in the Earth and Fifteen Wild Decembers is broadcast on Saturday 11 March at 2.30pm on Radio 4 more details |
