Margaret Beckett 16 Oct 2009
Margaret Beckett MP. Photographer Richard Richards at University of Derby
Derby South MP

Margaret Beckett is one of only two women in history to hold one of the big offices of state, she was Foreign Secretary from 2006 to 2007. In case you’re wondering, the other woman was another Margaret, and she was Prime Minister. Mrs Beckett’s career has been long and illustrious. She is the only minister to have served under James Callaghan, Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, and for two months in 1994 she was the only woman ever to lead the Labour Party. But she has also been tainted by the expenses scandal.  She joins Jenni in Derby to explain why she is staying on to fight yet another election, which could feasibly end in Opposition.
