On her latest novel, 'Family Album'
Booker prize winning novelist Penelope Lively joins Jenni to talk about her latest novel, Family Album. Allersmead is a big, shabby Edwardian house, full of the smell of raincoats and coq au vin. Six mugs are slung from the kitchen dresser hooks, one for each of the children who have grown up there. It seems the perfect family home. But is it? One by one, the now adult children return to their home-making mother, aloof writer father, and the house that for years played silent witness to a secret. Penelope discusses her theme of memory, how people manage to edit and re-arrange the past, the secrets that can lie beneath an ordinary family and how history has manipulated her as a writer.
