The politics of baring breasts

In the 80s, removing your bikini top to sunbathe was part of the feminist third wave. The right to bare breasts on the beach was claimed by women in their thousands and for many, to do anything else would have been unthinkable. Now, it’s been reported that the tide has turned. Women on the French Riviera are back in their tops. But why? Sheila talks to Vicki Hambley the director of a 'topfree' play hitting the Edinburgh fringe this month, and to Dr Ruth Barcan in Sydney, who’s written a history of nudity. They'll discuss why going topless can be an act of protest, not just a way to get rid of tan lines.

The Strong Breast Revolution is on at The Space on the Mile @ The Radisson (Venue 39) from 7th-29th August (not Sundays) at 14.45
