Would you be proud and positive, or upset and horrified?

What would you do if your son or daughter came home and said ‘mum, dad - I want to join the army’? Would you be proud and positive, or upset and horrified? Or maybe somewhere in between? Recruitment is at its highest level for years, and with more and more young people facing unemployment, the option of a career in the military may be an appealing one. Jenni talks to two mothers with quite different views. Jane Barff's son George was just seventeen when he joined the army. His mother says army life has been the making of him. Carole Vincent was appalled when her son said he wanted to join up. She was relieved when it became clear he wouldn't pass the medical.
