How long should bereaved parents have to wait before they can adopt?
Last summer, Amanda and Phil Peak’s two little boys were killed by a drink-driver on the M6. The couple have now decided they want to adopt but have been told by Salford City Council that they must wait two years to apply because they’re still grieving. Once initiated, the adoption procedure can take up to two years. Had the Peaks been able to have children naturally - which they can't because Amanda has had a hysterectomy - the decision to have more children would have been theirs alone. To look at the question of how long bereaved parents should wait before adopting, Sheila McClennon is joined by Ann Chalmers of the Child Bereavement Charity and Jonathan Pearce from Adoption UK.Adoption UK British Association for Adoption & Fostering The Child Bereavement CharityDisclaimer
