Recent research suggests that not enough is being done to help the children and families of drug addicts.
When a drug abuser is being treated for their addiction, the wider problems created by that addiction can often be overlooked. Children can find themselves being forced to take adult roles from very early ages and end up parenting not just younger siblings, but their parents as well. They often feel that they come second in their parent’s affections to drugs and are afraid of speaking out for fear of breaking up their family. Dr Brynna Kroll, an expert in substance misuse and the family, and Professor Neil McKeganey, Director of The Centre for Drug Misuse Research at The University of Glasgow join Jenni to discuss how we can help children & families of drug abusers. The Centre for Drug Misuse Research Addaction Al-anon Artec-EnterprisesDisclaimer
