At the cutting edge of young adult literature
Malorie Blackman’s latest novel ‘Double Cross’ is the fourth in the series, which started with her award winning book , ‘Noughts and Crosses’. In this world, the Crosses are the ruling black elite, while the whites are noughts, the bottom of society. This book follows the lives of Callie Rose and her nought best friend Tobey and highlights not only race, but also gang conflict, peer pressure and the roles that money and material goods play in the decisions made by or forced upon young people. Jane talks to Malorie about why she felt compelled to write this book and what it has to say to young adult readers.
