Ewa Strusinska is a rising star in the world of conducting. This year she was appointed assistant conductor at the Halle. It's a significant appointment for the Halle, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year, yet has never had a woman on the conducting staff. The orchestral playing field may be levelling out in terms of gender bias, but female conductors are still relatively rare around the world. Ewa Strusinska joins Sheila McClennon to discuss why there are still so few opportunities for women conductors.
